This Saturday: Harry Delugach and "Hyde nor Hare"!

Yes, our own dear Harry Delugach will be calling for us this Saturday, Sept. 5th, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian. We'll be dancing to the great music of Huntsville's Hyde nor Hare, consisting of Steve Tucker (fiddle), Gayle Brown (guitar), Scott Brown (banjo) & Curt Lewis (bass).

Sept. 19th: Donna McAllister with Ed & Elsie!

That wonderful Donna McAllister will be coming down from Knoxville again, to call for us at our third-Saturday dance. Huntsville's own highly talented Ed Baggott & Elsie Peterson will play for our dancing pleasure, on fiddle and piano. Be there or be square.

We dance the first, third, & fifth Saturdays of each month in Faith Presbyterian Church's pleasant gym, on the southeast corner of Whitesburg Drive & Airport Road, in southeast Huntsville. The night begins with a helpful workshop at 7:00 p.m.; the dance is 7:30-10:30. Each dance is taught, throughout the evening. To help pay for our hall, bands, & callers, we request a donation of $5; it's $4 if you're an NACDS member (or related to one), or a member of any out-of-town contra-dance group &/or CDSS, the Country Dance & Song Society; and $3 if you're 12-18 years old; kids under 12 get in free. Please bring clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes; a drinking cup; and a name button, if you have one.

Tuesday, September 15: The Metro Unity Group of Huntsville, which "seeks to improve relations among all races," is organizing a multi-cultural "evening of fashion, music, and dance," in observance of Unity Month, at the Gazebo in Big Spring International Park. NACDS has just been invited to participate, but we need to have enough dancers; we're on our way to getting a firm commit- ment from a caller and a band. Also, on the 19th (a Saturday), the Downtown Unity Parade is scheduled at 4 p.m. We can walk in the parade, perhaps wearing our NACDS T-shirts! This should be a lot of fun, and a nice way to introduce us to a wider, more diverse group. If you're interested, please contact me as soon as you can: 883-7453 or AKay9@aol.com.

Our most recent "Blue Moon" open-mike dance, this past Saturday, was a roaring success, I hear. Dances were called by Jane Ewing, Dave Linden, Marcy Robinson, Ron Franz, Chuck Weber, and Harry Delugach; and Anon (Chuck on lead fiddle, Katrina Coupland on piano, and Steve Nix on guitar) was supplemented by the following musicians: Ian Panton on fiddle; Dave Linden on fiddle, bouzouki, mandolin & tin whistle; Blanchard Weber (Chuck's brother!) & Harry Delugach on guitar; and Mike Summerall on bass. Kudos to all who participated! And, lucky us!: October has a fifth Saturday this year, and it's Halloween! (Let's make it a costume party, shall we?) Call Harry (772-0820) or Chuck (536-1397) if you'd like to play or call.

Birmingham's dance weekend at Mentone was a blast, as usual, the weekend before last. The dancing and music were divine. I encourage you to go sometime, especially if you've never been. Contact Joyce Cauthen to get on the mailing list: jcauthen@earthlink.net; or 1(205)822-0505.

Speaking of out-of-town events: Jane & Terry Ewing brought back rave reviews of the annual Dance Week at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, West Virginia, and say they would be happy to answer any questions from anyone thinking of attending classes there. (Their number is listed below.)

Best wishes and congratulations to Mollianne Buster Massey (formerly Mollianne McFettridge) on her recent marriage!

Swan Song: This will probably be my last newsletter, at least for a long while. For various reasons, I've decided to pass the torch on to someone else. The chances appear to be very good that your next newsletter editor will be Doug Roth, who will most likely begin his editorship with the October issue. I know he'll do a great job. I've enjoyed my stint, and hope you have, too. See you on the dance floor!

Join us -- or renew your membership (check your mailing label's date) -- by sending $8 (payable to me, please!) to the address below. You'll receive this monthly newsletter, and you and each of your family members will receive a one-dollar discount on admission to each of our regular dances.
