North Alabama Country Dance Society Newsletter -- December 1994

Eastside Dance: The December 3 dance at Eastside Community Center will feature the calling of Donna McAllister with the music of Lykitor Knot. Lykitor Knot will be busy this month -- besides this dance, they'll be playing the Christmas Dance, as well as the Huntsville Folk Dancers dance.

The Christmas Dance sold out early this time. For those lucky enough to get a ticket, don't forget to bring along a favorite finger food to share. If you'd like to help decorate, call Elsie Peterson at 536-6962.

Huntsville Folk Dancers: If you didn't get tickets to the Christmas dance, or if you just want to get warmed up, come over to the HFD Christmas Waltz Workshop the night before. On Friday night, December 16, the HFD dance will feature instruction and practice in couples' waltzes, just like we do at our dances before the break and at the end. If you've been too shy to jump in to a waltz at a dance, want to work on some of the finer points, or know it all but just want to waltz, come on over. I'll be teaching with help from a skilled partner that hasn't agreed to do it yet. As was already mentioned, Lykitor Knot will be providing the music. So there will be familiar faces, and you can learn a useful skill. There will be some other dances, too, mostly waltz related. Families welcome! All dances are taught. HFD Dances are at the Scruggs Community Center, which is next door to the downtown library, starting at 7:30.

WLRH Record Sale: I don't do much advertising in this newsletter, but I do like to put in an occasional plug for the WLRH crew, who have so often allowed us to advertise on their station. Their Fifth Annual Record Sale will run from December 4-10 at the WLRH studios. They will be selling donated records, CDs, prerecorded tapes, and video tapes/games. It's not too late to drop by donations of any of these media, either. Support Public Radio!

Editorial Swan Song: Beginning next month, editorial duties for this piece of journalistic excellence will pass into the capable hands of Katharina Coupland. If you have any news you'd like to share with fellow dancers, she's the one to contact, at 536-2190. Katrina has agreed to take over for the next year. I think she's serious about giving it back at that time, so maybe it's more like a starling song. See you in '96?. A special thanks to Jack Shutt (that's him behind Angela in the picture), who has faithfully supplied labels, at his own cost, and despite poor communication from me. Thanks also to Fred Beckett for supplying information on who's doing what when, often repeatedly, and sometimes at unfortunate hours. And thanks to all who have contributed, and all who have read. I've enjoyed it! Toodles!

Newsletter subscriptions or renewals are still a mere $6.00 a year, and can be paid at the dance or mailed to Katrina Coupland at 109 Nolen Circle, Huntsville, AL 35801. Comes with $1.00 discount on the regular dances! Checks can be made out either to Katrina, or to NACDS.
