Dancing around Chattanooga, Tennessee

Chattanooga is located in southeast Tennessee, about 2 hours southeast of Nashville and 2 hours east (and a bit north) of Huntsville, Alabama, 2.5 hours northeast of Birmingham, Alabama and 2.5 hours northwest of Atlanta, Georgia.

 

Chattanooga Traditional Dance Society
The Chattanooga Traditional Dance Society usually holds contra dances on two Saturdays of the month. Look at the area-wide schedule to see dates and who is playing. The dances are at All Saints Academy which is at 310 East 8th St. in downtown Chattanooga. Take I 24 to US 27 North. Take exit 1C, which is 4th Street. Go 2 blocks to Broad St. Turn right on Broad and go to 8th St. Turn left on 8th and go about 4 blocks to 310. All Saints Academy is an old school building and is on the right. (As a reference point, the Aquarium is at Broad and 2nd). - or - >From the Memorial Auditorium at McCallie and Lindsay turn left on Lindsay and go one block to 8th. Turn left on 8th to All Saints at 310 8th. Admission is $5.00 and dances start at 8:00. Split Tree Farm
Sid Hetzler organizes various sort of parties and festivals at the Split Tree Farm. They always involve food, music, and a lot of really neat people.
To reach the site from Chattanooga and I-24, take the Lookout Mountain exit; turn left onto Broad St., following Rock City signs, and turn left at Mt. Vernon Rest. onto Tennessee Ave. (Hwy 117), which becomes St. Elmo Ave. and then GA 193 at the state line. From the Georgia state line go 17 miles on GA 193 to the Split Tree Festival sign on the right at mile marker #11.
